Abstract: Benchmark bonds help to improve market efficiency. They seem to arise spontaneously in deep and liquid markets. Can governments help to create them where markets are too small? This paper examines three emerging markets in Asia where authorities have tried: they have designated specific bonds as benchmarks and fostered their liquidity. We identify exactly which bonds were the designated benchmarks. We then propose rank-order measures of liquidity and determine the extent to which these de jure benchmarks end up as de facto benchmarks in the sense of being the most liquid bonds in their maturity segments. We find that this occurs in close to 60% of months in our sample, covering a range of maturities for Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. We identify three factors that make success more likely: (a) choosing already liquid bonds; (b) choosing bonds that have previously served as de jure benchmarks; and (c) choosing bonds that will be issued during the month.

Abstract: The central aim of this study is to contribute to the encroachment of knowledge on impact of tourism on environmental pollution by CO2 emissions ASEAN-3 namely Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore during 1990-2014. The FMOLS results reveal that the impact of tourism variable on environmental pollution is significantly positive, while for Thailand and Singapore, it is found negative and statistically significant. Empirical findings suggest that sustainable economic development should be ensured by implementing prudent public policy, where tourism industry needs to be expanded further but fulfilment of its responsibility towards maintaining green and sustainable environment must be top most priority.

Abstract: As the ASEAN put forward aviation industry liberalization measures in 2010, the Indonesian aviation industry has been moving towards the other side of spectrum of late. Two market ventures driving the change was in late 2018, where one of the leading airlines group, Garuda Group, through Citilink agreed to form cooperation with Sriwijaya Air. Second, January 2019 further marked the period in which Lion Air started charging ‘baggage fees’ and Garuda Indonesia stopped offering sub class ticket. Amid the presence of such changes in the industry, this study aims to discuss the current state, challenges, and potential of the Indonesian aviation market; comprehensively discuss the economic implications of such state of the industry; as well as how the government may act to help address the possible market failures. The study utilizes multiple data sources, i.e., data from CAPA, INFARE, as well as official governmental transportation database. We first describe the potential of airlines industry in Indonesia. We identify the periodical breaks in the industry’s growth; that is, during which periods significant changes are happening. What follows is a complete breakdown of the market concentration and landscape. We proceed to show the impacts of the generalized price hike. Our findings suggest that loss of passengers is immense. Further, we find an intriguingly similar capacity drop in the period following the Citilink – Sriwijaya deal conducted by virtually all the members of Garuda Group and Lion Air Group – all against the year-on-year trend. We specifically decompose the changes that follow the late 2018 trend. Further implications are discussed. We conclude the study with relevant policy recommendations.

Abstract: The 2018 Asian Games is the biggest sports event in the history of Asian Games in terms of contested sports as well as the participating athletes. Considering the massive scale of the event, it is imperative that the benefits generated by the 2018 Asian Games be measured. This study contributes to the extant body of literature on the long-term benefits of sports event on tourism and sports tourism sectors, with reference to the case of 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia. Using primary data collected through the survey during the event, the study found that hosting the 2018 Asian Games has increased favorable perceptions among event participants and visitors towards Indonesia; positively affected the propensity to repeat visitations to Indonesia in the future; increased the likelihood of giving positive referrals to Indonesia for tourism destination and future international sports event hosting. The academic and policy implications of the findings are discussed.

Abstract: Sustainable food security at household level is one of the emerging issues for all nations. There are several factors such as social, economic, political, demographic, natural, and livelihood strategies that causes to the vulnerability of the status of household food security. Therefore examining the vulnerability of these factors is essential to identify the reason and recognize the most vulnerable communities. This study is an attempt to study on the vulnerability of the factors of household food utilization and its linkage with climatic changes in Malaysia. The study is based on primary data collected in the months of July – October, 2012 through a questionnaire survey on 460 low income households from East Coast Economic Region (ECER) in Malaysia. The samples were selected from E-Kasih poor household database, based on cluster random sampling technique. The study found that the vulnerability of the factors of household food utilization has increased statistically significantly over the last five years period due to difference between rural and city food quality, occurrences of natural disasters, incidences of mosquitoes, insects, pest, etc., and diseases like dengue, malaria, heat stretch, cold, skin disease, etc. This study suggests that the food security programs need to be integrated with climatic change adaptation programs to ensure more effective and sustainable household food security in future, especially among the poor and low income group.

Abstract: Purpose: Sustainable food security at the household level is one of the emerging issues for all nations. Several factors such as social, economic, political, demographic, natural, and livelihood strategies cause vulnerability in the status of household food security. This study is an attempt to examine the vulnerability of the factors of household food accessibility and its linkage with the climatic changes in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on primary data collected in the months of July – October, 2012 through a questionnaire survey on 460 low-income households from the East Coast Economic Region (ECER) in Malaysia. The samples were selected from E-Kasih poor household database, based on the cluster random sampling technique. The questionnaire uses a five-point Likert scale, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA F statistics for Chi-Square Two Sample Test. Findings: The study finds that the vulnerability of the factors of household food accessibility has increased statistically and significantly over the last five years in Malaysia, whereas the contributions of climatic factors are low on these changes. This study suggests that the food security programs in Malaysia need to be integrated with the climatic change adaptation programs to ensure more effective and sustainable household food security in the future. Originality/value: This study is an original work based on primary data that empirically measures the vulnerability of the factors of household food accessibility, one of the important dimensions of household food security, and its linkage with climatic changes.

Abstract: Changes in climatic factors have different impacts on different social groups. But the farmers are considered to be the most vulnerable group because of their direct and indirect dependency on climatic factors. This study aims to understand the nature of socioeconomic impacts of climatic changes on the farmers in Malaysia. A questionnaire survey was conducted on a sample of 198 paddy farmers in the Integrated Agricultural Development Area at North-West Selangor of Malaysia in 2009. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ordinal scale and percentile. The study reveals that climatic changes have adverse impacts on agricultural productivity, profitability, income equality, employment, farmer’s health, and government subsidy policy. The Kuznets ratio and Gini coefficient indicate that there is highly unequal distribution of income. Climatic changes are contributing to the widening of this income gap, because poor farmers are affected more by the adverse effects of climatic changes. The current government subsidy policy is not found appropriate and adequate to support and encourage the farmers to adequately adapt to the climatic changes and to reduce the inequality among the farming community. The paper ends up with recommending some policy guidelines to counter adverse effects of climate change on income of paddy farmers in Malaysia.

Abstract: To improve the trust of citizens and delivery of services, employing good governance principles in the public sector is very crucial. Despite efforts to improve service delivery, criticisms and complains toward public services remain evident. This study aims to assess the status of good governance practices in the public sector of Malaysia. Primary data were collected from the responses of 109 department heads under 24 federal ministries to a survey questionnaire. Respondent perception of good governance practices was measured using a seven-point Likert scale and analyzed by descriptive statistics and path measurement modeling. Standard diagnostic tests were also conducted to check the reliability of the data and model. Results indicated that nine factors were significant in the measurement of good governance practices. However, very few people in the public sector of Malaysia practice fraud control, which is at the lowest intensity. Among the service groups, the engineer group practiced good governance at the highest level, whereas the health service group practiced good governance at the lowest level. Therefore, still there are scopes available to improve good governance systems to become more reliable and efficient public sector in Malaysia. Findings of the study will help policy makers improve the efficiency of the public sector of Malaysia and other countries.

Abstract: Purpose: Sustainable food security at the household level is one of the emerging issues for all nations. It is expected that the patterns of household resilience factors and adaptation practices have a strong linkage with household food security. The aim of this study was to seek an effective technique of adaptation for food security and the required types of support for adaptation to food insecurity among the poor and low income households in Malaysia. Design/methodology/approach: This study was based on primary data that were collected in Jul-Oct 2012 through a questionnaire survey among 460 poor and low income households from the Pahang, Kelantan, and Terengganu states of Malaysia. The samples were selected from E-Kasih poor household database based on a two-stage cluster random sampling technique. The study considered household food security as household food availability and food accessibility, and ran ordinal regressions to find out the linkages of household food security with household resilience factors, adaptation practices, and expected support for adaptation to food security. Findings: The study concludes that several resilience factors and adaptation practices were statistically significant to household food security, and several external supports were statistically and significantly needed to ensure household food security. Therefore, to ensure sustainable household food security in Malaysia, the food security programs needs to be integrated with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climatic changes adaptation programs, and the involvement of relevant stakeholders are crucial. Abstract: Purpose: Whistleblowing is an important factor in preventing corruption and fraud in organizations. There is a law to promote whistleblowing practices, but the negative subsequent effect of whistleblowing demotivates the reporting of unethical behaviours. Thus, it is important to identify the factors that motivate an employee to exercise whistleblowing in an organization. Therefore, this study aims to examine whether the personal factor of job satisfaction and organizational factors such as fair treatment as well as cooperativeness contribute to the whistleblowing practice in an organization. Design/methodology/approach: This study collected primary data based on a questionnaire survey from 73 respondents of the seven top most GLCs in Malaysia. The data are analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and cross-sectional regression. Findings: The findings of the study reveal that only fair treatment is statistically significant and positively related to the whistleblowing practice. The findings imply that if employees perceive that the organization provides fair treatment in terms of career advancement, awards, training, performance appraisal, job assignment, and pay increases, they would tend to report wrongdoing activities to protect the image of the organization. Practical implications: The findings of the study will help the policy makers to ensure better working environment and accountability in the public sector of Malaysia and other similar countries. Originality/value: This is an original study based on primary data to examine the current practices of whistleblowing and its relationship with the practices of job satisfaction, fair treatment, and cooperativeness in the government linked companies of Malaysia.

Abstract: This study aims to see the effect of the mundell-fleming model on changes in GDP that occurred in Indonesia in 2010 - 2017. In this study using simultaneous equations because in the mundell-fleming model there are several similarities, so the phenomena that occur in Indonesia can be clearly seen. This study found that in the IS Model direct investment and net exports that occurred in Indonesia did not have an impact on changes in Indonesia's GDP while in the LM model the interest rate and inflation did not have an impact on changes in Indonesia's GDP. This condition is more due to lower sales compared to production that occurred in Indonesia and changes in supply of real money balances.

Abstract: To identify the human capital construct that significantly relates to the performance of Islamic organizations, this study obtained data from Islamic microfinance organizations in Malaysia using the survey questionnaire method. In addition, we interviewed renowned scholars in the fields of Islamic accounting and Shariah law. Consequently, this study proposes an extended model of human capital that is applicable to Islamic organizations. Apart from knowledge and competency, this study includes spiritual value as another construct of human capital in Islamic organizations. Knowledge includes ideas that are relevant to the accounting and auditing spectra, as well as Shariah principles and jurisprudence. By contrast, competency refers to the ability to innovate unique Shariah-compliant products that are rare and difficult to imitate. Meanwhile, spiritual values embrace the elements of “Siddiq,” “Amanah,” “Fathonah,” and “Tabligh.” This study affirms that knowledge, competency, and satisfaction are the most significant constructs of human capital that explain performance. Factor analysis indicates that spiritual value is embedded in and forms part of the human capital construct. Hence, spiritual value is a key element in company culture and contributes significantly to organizational success. This model can be a platform for human capital reporting in the relevant Islamic and conventional organizations.

Abstract: The main objective of this research is to examine the effect of government expenditures on the transportation sector and that effect on economic growth in Indonesia from 1986 to 2016. The research employed long time series data, utilizing the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression method to analyze the data collected. The data analyzed show that government expenditures on transportation as a physical capital and government expenditures on education as human capital significantly affect economic growth in Indonesia. On the contrary, the expenditures on housing and health indicated no contribution for national economic activity. This study recommended that government must ensure the budget for transportation development. The government must pay more attention to the allocation of the education budget for regions outside Java, by building educational facilities in areas that are still in the poor category that will improve their standard of living. Lastly, government should pay more attention to bureaucratic system specifically the procurement of goods and services and give punishment to those who divert and embezzle public funds.

Abstract: Purpose - The ESG factor, which consists of environmental, social, and governance factors, represents the non-financial performance of a company. United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UN-PRI) invites investors to consider ESG issues when evaluating the performance of any company. Moreover, nowadays the contribution of corporations towards sustainable development is a major concern of investors, creditors, government, and other environmental agencies. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of ESG factors on the performance of Malaysian public limited companies in terms of profitability, firm value, and cost of capital. Design/methodology/approach – A total of 54 companies are selected from Bloomberg’s ESG database that has complete ESG and financial data from 2010 to 2013. This study conducted panel data regressions such as the pooled OLS, fixed effect, and random effect. Findings - Based on the regression results, there is no significant relationship between individual and combined factors of ESG and firm profitability (i.e., ROE) as well as firm value (i.e., Tobin’s Q). Moreover, individually, none of the factors of ESG is significant with the cost of capital (WACC), but the combined score of ESG positively and significantly influences the cost of capital (WACC) of a company. Practical implications - As this is a new study on Malaysia, the findings of this study will be useful to investors, SRI analysts, policy makers, and other related agencies. Originality/value – To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is among the first empirical study to examine the impact of ESG factors on the performance of Malaysian public limited companies in terms of profitability, firm value, and cost of capital.

Abstract: The financial technology (fintech) has a fundamental impact on the economy, particularly for emerging economies through improving financial inclusion and reducing the poverty level, unemployment, and income inequality (Furche et al, 2017). The rapid development of fintech should not be seen as a favourable condition alone. Several research argue that this phenomenon might impact to the existing financial industry, bank for instance (Wong, 2017; Temelkov, 2018) and at some point it will possibly run beyond the reach of regulation. Thus, regulator needs to start right to minimize the potential drawback of the fintech development including the potential disruption to the financial stability. This research employs the ?separating apples from oranges? framework from Minto et al (2017) that consists of four filters in categorizing fintech and aims to: (1) figure out the most significant part to be regulated in the fintech industry in Indonesia; (2) give an advisable input to central bank in mitigating the issue without burden the growth of fintech. It is interesing to have a further look on the fintech development in Indonesia since it gave significant contribution in the national economy. As an ecosystem of fintech, Delloitte (2016) revealed that digital economy in Indonesia led to the 2% annual GDP and 80% growth of small-medium enterprises (SME).

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to find out how much the rate of return earned on investments in banking companies studied, to find out how to obtain the level of risk in the stock investment banking firm selected as a sample, and to determine how the analysis of macroeconomic variables on the level risk and rate of return on investments in companies studied. In this study, the population is banking companies listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) from 2005 to 2007 as many as 30 companies. The samples studied were limited to 10 banking companies from 2005-2007. The method used was purposive sampling method. Based on the calculations, the rate of return and the highest level of risk that is happening at PT. Kimia Farma (Persero) Tbk amounting to 8% with a risk level of 24.86% and the lowest or loss (capital loss) that is on the PT. Kalbe Farma Tbk was -0.08% with a 6.77% risk level that occurred in 2007. From the years 2005-2007 the value of GDP has fallen so the rate of return of each stock is not worth the risk to be faced. In the last three months in 2005 until September 2006, inflation ranged between 14% -19% and in October 2006 through the end of 2007, the inflation rate did not exceed 7%. With high inflation, the stock returns at year-end 2005 to end 2006 down and inflation is down and the rate of return of sahampun began to increase. At the end of 2005 not only the value of high inflation, but the SBI interest rate is also high and the weakening of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar resulted in the investment climate in Indonesia is not good enough for investors.

Abstract: Regarding Megatrends, healthcare is one of the most popular sector for investors. Global healthcare expenditures are expected to continue to rise as spending is projected to increase at the rate of 5.4 percent per annum, from USD $7.724 trillion in 2017 to USD $10.059 trillion in 2022. Results from CBRE?s recent EMEA-wide Investor Survey show that healthcare is one of the most popular subsectors of the alternatives market and that large numbers of investors are looking to get into the sector. Firm?s financial performance is often used as the key metrics when making investment decision. However, a number of financial ratios has to be collectively considered in order to provide an appropriate evaluation of financial performance. This study aims to propose a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDC) model to measure and compare the financial performance of twenty-three healthcare firms listed in Thailand Stock Exchange. These firms are examined and assessed in terms of eight financial ratios which are combined to obtain a financial performance score by using Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution Methods (TOPSIS). Abstract: This study assesses the status of the current level of market orientation among the Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) in Malaysia. This study collected primary data based on a set of questionnaire survey among 134 executives and managers of GLCs in Malaysia. The data were collected based on opinions of the ten factors of market orientation practices by using the five-point Likert scale. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. On an average, 86.6% of the respondents agreed that they focus on these factors of market orientation. The federal owned GLCs place more emphasis on market orientation than the state owned GLCs. This study suggests improving the practices of market orientation of GLCs in Malaysia by emphasizing on providing close attention to after-sales service, responding rapidly to the threats of competitive actions, regularly discussing the competitors’ strengths and strategies by top management, and freely communicating successful and unsuccessful customer experiences across all business functions. It is suggested that Malaysian GLCs should serious invest in market orientation to deliver higher accountability outcomes.

Abstract: Property sector companies whose shares are traded on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) has a period of booming growth dynamics of a property crash period when the economic crisis. Economic Value Added (EVA) valuing the company economically while assessing the company's stock price is the market. Four determinant factors in the EVA model framework: profitability (ROA), capital structure (debt ratio), beta stocks and interest rates; investigated its effect on EVA and its implications for stock price movement. Testing hypotheses through stages: (i) the design of the model-path (path analytical model), (ii) parameter estimation, (iii) analysis of the model, and (iv) model evaluation. Estimation models with SPSS ver ver 10:05 and 8:51 LISREL. The results are: (i) EVA influenced by, from the most dominant, ROA profitability levels, interest rates, debt ratio, and beta stocks (R2 = 95%). ROA has a positive effect, interest rate and debt ratio negatively, whereas no significant effect of beta stocks (balance); (ii) The movement of stock prices are influenced by, from the most dominant, beta stocks, interest rates, ROA, and the debt ratio (R2 = 20%). ROA beta and positive influence, a negative influence interest rates, whereas the effect of debt ratio balance; (iii) If the ROA rose one standard unit, precision EVA rose 0.98 units and the stock price rose 0.20 units, if the interest rates go down one unit, EVA rose by 0.10, the stock price rose 0.25 units; if debt ratio down one unit, EVA rose 0.06 units, but does not cause a change in the stock price; when beta stocks rose one-unit standard, EVA has not changed but the stock price will rise by 0:37 units, ceteris paribus. Single regression analysis model EVA exogenous to the movement of stock prices show that the company's share price movements in the property sector IDX very little influenced by variations in EVA (4.7%), the stock price will rise by 0:22 dipresisikan if EVA unit up one unit, ceteris paribus.

Abstract: During 2013–2016, there are policy changes on Personal Income Tax (PIT) exemption, stated in PMK No. 162/PMK.011/2012, PMK No. 122/PMK.010/2015, and PMK No. 101/PMK.010/2016. Nonetheless, there is no empirical study yet, to my knowledge, that evaluates this policy. An increase of PIT exemptions can be viewed from distributive aspect, of how the incidence (benefit) distributed across taxpayers’ disposable income, as well as on the effciency aspect, whether it has or has not affected labor supply. This study explored on the effciency aspect. The agents – taxpayers as workers – now may experience an increase in net income due to a more generous exemption, and whether the policy of PIT exemption may in?uence taxpayers’ labor supply is more of an empirical question. I use SAKERNAS data from 2010–2018 and estimation model is limited to only consider paid (labor) employment rather than self-employment. On paid (labor) employment, ?rms function as withholding that can extract some of PIT from employee’s salary, and thus paid (labor) employee may then ?le PIT return. My preliminary result shows that effect of PIT exemption policy change is heterogenous across group of population. PIT exemption expansion increases labor supply of paid (labor) employees of the previously lowest income bracket of PIT. However, although to an extent tax saving may be higher for middle to high income individuals, taxpayers referring to individuals in income bracket of 15% rate tend to be not affected by the policy of PIT exemption.

The examination utilized the subjective research by mulling over the announcement of official statement circulated in Television and newspaper. The examination discovered that the forensic accounting application both XYZ University and ABC Bank rehearsed poor interior control framework. The case of XYZ University demonstrated the insufficiency of present philosophies of inner and outside controls and auditing framework, thus we recommended the following: real-time checking, initiate periodical investigations, recording systems and arraignment, and separate accounting tasks. Also, we suggested to develop forensic accounting in the organization, especially the personnel involve in the finances of the company and awareness of fraud triangle.

Abstract: The Muda Irrigation Area is one of the main paddy production areas in Malaysia. Various efforts and approaches through government interventions have been implemented to ensure the continuity of paddy production in this area. However, there are different factors that have negative impacts on paddy production including climatic factors. Therefore, with the direct components of production such as land, labor, and technology, this study uses climatic factors and government intervention to examine the influence of these factors of production on the paddy production in this area. Based on the time series data from 1981 to 2010, this study conducted the multiple log linear Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression by considering the Cobb-Douglas production function model. The major units of production, such as land, labor, and technology, have a statistically positive relationship with paddy production. Among the climatic variables, rainfall and the number of rainy days show a statistically significant and positive relationship but temperature shows a negative relationship with paddy production. The factors of external intervention such as government subsidies and market forces also show a statistically significant and positive relationship with paddy production. To ensure the improvement of paddy production as well as to minimize the effects of climatic change, government intervention should be continued in Malaysia.

Abstract: This study examines the impacts of income, energy consumption and population growth on CO2 emissions by employing an annual time series data for the period 1970-2012 for India, Indonesia, China, and Brazil. The study used the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds test approach considering both the linear and non-linear assumptions for related time series data for the top CO2 emitter emerging countries in both the short run and long run. The results show that CO2 emissions have increased statistically significantly with increases in income and energy consumption in all four countries. While the relationship between CO2 emissions and population growth was found to be statistically significant for India and Brazil, it has been statistically insignificant for China and Indonesia in both the short run and long run. Also, empirical observations from the testing of environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis imply that in the cases of Brazil, China and Indonesia, CO2 emissions will decrease over the time when income increases. So based on the EKC findings, it can be argued that these three countries should not take any actions or policies, which might have conservative impacts on income, in order to reduce their CO2 emissions. But in the case of India, where CO2 emissions and income were found to have a positive relationship, an increase in income over the time will not reduce CO2 emissions in the country.

Abstract: Characteristics of “wicked†problems have been applied to guide policymakers address complex, multi-faceted dimensions of social-environmental challenges, such as climate change and ecosystem management. Waste management exhibits many of these characteristics, however, literature which frames waste as a “wicked†problem is absent. Addressing this gap, this paper explores the extent to which institutional and legislative frameworks reduce waste generation, and highlights various challenges policymakers face when addressing waste management. Building a case around frameworks in the Philippines, this paper first provides a review of current waste management challenges before applying textual analysis to investigate how residual waste is addressed by existing legislation, and through ongoing legislative amendments and creation by the Philippine Congress. This research reveals discourse exists within the narrative of waste management policy. There are those policymakers with preference for greater command and control style policy and those with greater preference for reduced policy interventions. The former supports waste mitigation through encouraging and incentivising behavioural changes, while the latter emphasises increased reliance upon market-based solutions and technological innovation to reduce waste quantities. This paper ascertains debates surrounding waste management policy, such as those ongoing within Philippine congress, demonstrate that waste management can be considered as a “wicked†problem. This paper concludes successful waste management policies should be measured by reduction in waste quantities, waste volumes and the persistence of waste toxicity, in addition to decreased detrimental impacts to human and environmental health. Parameters such as these may guide policymakers navigate the “wickedness†of waste management.

Abstract: This paper evaluates the short-term impact of an early childhood curriculum intervention on child development. Teachers in rural childcare centers in northeastern Thailand were encouraged to employ the new curriculum, which is based primarily on the HighScope approach. We overcome the endogenous decision of teachers to adopt the new curriculum by using the randomization of additional teachers as an instrument. We find that the new curriculum significantly improved child development in several dimensions, including gross motor, fine motor, expressive language, and personal and social skills, with an effect size of roughly 0.54 standard deviations for the benchmark case. The results are robust with regards to various estimation methods, child development measures, and sample selections. We also find that the impact of the new curriculum is quite homogeneous across sub-groups except in some dimensions, notably parental absence and teacher's job status.

Abstract: A number of researches have been examined the volatility of stock price in capital market for quite some time. Many studies have been undertaken to explore determinants influencing fluctuation in stock prices in different markets and dissimilar conclusions are found. The purpose of this study attempts to determine the factors that cause stock prices to increase or decrease. Eight explanatory variables including dividend yield, growth, leverage, return on equity, bookvalue per share, earnings per share, price-earning (P/E) ratio, and net profit after tax have been selected, while one controllable variable is set as firm-size. Completed financial data of577 samples from companies listed in Thailand Stock Exchange (TSE) SET 100 Index, excluding financing and banking sector, during the period of 2009-2018 are analyzed. Multiple regression model with statistic testing at the significant level 0.05 has been implemented. The results indicate strongly positive significant association between return on equity, earnings per share, price earnings and net profit after tax on firm?s stock price. Whereas dividend yield is the only factor that has negatively relationship with stock price. This model is supported with high R2 of 0.88. The findings in this study can assist investors or managers to comprehend the effect of specific determinants to company?s stock price in Thai capital market.

Abstract: Purpose - Integrity is a critical issue as it could lead to failures in governance, fraud, inefficacy, corruption, as well as weak financial management particularly in the public sector. At present, the public sector is a matter of global concern due the constant cases of failures in governance, fraud, inefficacy, and corruption. As such, this sector has been pressurized to provide justification of the sources and usages of public resources and to improve their service performance as the public has the right to monitor the public sector management’s transparency and efficacy. This study evaluates the state of present integrity practices among public sector employees from various Malaysian service schemes. Design/methodology/approach – Primary data were collected using a questionnaire survey approach with 194 heads of departments in the Malaysian federal ministries. The collection of data was according to the perspective of 13 factors in integrity practices using a five-point Likert scale. Factor analysis and descriptive statistics were utilized for data analysis. In addition, data reliability was checked by Cronbach’s alpha test, data normality was examined by Skewness and Kurtosis tests, and data validity was tested by using Kaiser-Meyer Olkin test and Barlett’s test. Findings - The findings show that 92.6% of the participants reported that they practised integrity within their departments. Nevertheless, the priority for these integrity factors varies according to the service schemes. In general, the departments of finance, audits, and administration had an above average integrity practice level however the practice of the accounting scheme is below the general average level. Practical/Policy implications - This findings of the study will help policy makers to take necessary steps to improve the practices of integrity in the public sector in order to create a more dependable and efficient public sector in Malaysia. Originality/value – This is an original study based on primary data that assesses the performance of practicing integrity in the public sector of Malaysia.

Abstract: In 2015 ASEAN has become a community which rests on three pillars: political-security, economic and social-cultural (Jetin and Mikic, 2016). The underlying assumption is that economic development will be fostered by a regional integration deepening, namely a "single market and single production base" which should lead to a convergence of social-cultural development thanks to a catching up process of the latecomers and poorest member states vis-à-vis the more advanced ASEAN Member States (AMS) (Jetin, B. 2016a). This implies a convergence of living standards and a strong decline of poverty. The purpose of this paper is precisely to verify the existence of such a process of convergence among AMS and the nature of this convergence. Which countries are converging? How did poverty evolve and what is the social dynamics implied? Section 1 checks if the existence of ASEAN has favoured a process of convergence of living standards or in other terms a reduction of inequality between countries. In section 2, we show that in several ASEAN countries, absolute poverty has receded but has been replaced by relative, poverty which creates its own set of expectations and potential frustrations. Finally, in section 3, we focus on the emergence of the middle classes and their potential effect on the socioeconomic dynamic of ASEAN countries.

Abstract: Children of Asian immigrants in most English-speaking destinations have better academic outcomes, yet the underlying causes of their advantages are under-studied. We employ panel time-use diaries by two cohorts of children observed over a decade to present new evidence that children of Asian immigrants begin spending more time than their peers on educational activities from school entry; and, that the ethnicity gap in the time allocated to educational activities increases over time. By specifying an augmented value-added model and invoking a quantile decomposition method, we find that the academic advantage of children of Asian immigrants is attributable mainly to their allocating more time to educational activities or their favorable initial cognitive abilities and not to socio-demographics or parenting styles. Furthermore, our results show substantial heterogeneity in the contributions of initial cognitive abilities and time allocations by test subjects, test ages and points of the test score distribution.

Abstract: This empirical investigation aims at exploring the determinants of money demand in Vietnam by using both linear and nonlinear autoregressive distributed lags models over the period spanning from the third quarter of 2000 to the first quarter of 2018. Our findings can be summarized as follows: firstly, when the shock is symmetric (i.e. a permanent nominal appreciation of one percent), the money demand increases by 3.7 percent in the long term. Secondly, when the shock is asymmetric, for a permanent nominal appreciation of one percent, we observe an increase of 15.6 percent in the money demand. Whereas, for a permanent nominal depreciation of one percent, we observe a decrease of 7.4 percent in the money demand. These results are consistent with symmetry tests and lead us to think that asymmetries occur mainly in the short run and are transmitted to the long run.

Abstract: Ensuring accountability in the public sector is a very crucial issue as it could lead to failures in governance, fraud, inefficacy, corruption as well as weak financial management. This study evaluated the state of present accountability practices among public sector employees from various Malaysian service schemes. Primary data were collected, using a questionnaire survey approach with 194 heads of departments in the Malaysian federal ministries. Data was collected in accordance with the perspective of 12 factors in accountability practices, using a five-point Likert scale. Factor analysis and descriptive statistics were utilized for data analysis. In addition, data reliability was checked by Cronbach’s alpha test; data normality was examined by Skewness and Kurtosis tests, and data validity was tested by using Kaiser-Meyer Olkin test and Barlett’s test. The findings show that 94.9% of the participants reported that they practised accountability within their departments. Nevertheless, the priority for these accountability factors varied according to the service schemes. In general, the perceived accountability practice was the highest within the group of the administrative scheme and the lowest among the employees under the accounting scheme. Moreover, the perceived accountability practice of the audit scheme was below the general average level. This findings of the study would help policy makers to take necessary steps to improve the practices of accountability in the public sector for creating a more dependable and efficient public sector in Malaysia.

Abstract: This study attempts to assess the present level of innovation status among Malaysian Government-Linked Companies (GLCs). A set of questionnaire was distributed among 134 managers and executives from these GLCs to collect the primary data for this study. The perspectives of executives were collected based on ten factors of innovation practices utilizing the five-point Likert scales. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data while the reliability and validity were tested using the Cronbach’s alpha test and the Skewness and Kurtosis test, respectively. Factor analysis was used to test the data consistency. The findings revealed the 82.8% of the respondents were agreeable to their firms’ emphasis on the factors of innovation. However, it was found that GLCs that were owned by the federal government placed more focus on innovation compared to the GLCs that were state-owned. This study reveals that overall the Malaysian GLCs should enhance their innovation practices by placing more focus on being engaged in the adoption of innovative designs at work, the reengineering of business processes, innovative pricing, market distribution and promotional methods, enhancing customer satisfaction by importing innovative warranty and maintenance systems, as well as by importing innovative claim clearing processes and methods, and the adoption of innovative order management and follow-up systems.

Abstract: This study is an attempt to assess the status of the current level of entrepreneurial orientation among the Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) in Malaysia. This study collected primary data based on a set of questionnaire survey among 134 executives and managers of GLCs in Malaysia. The data were collected based on opinions of the seven factors of entrepreneurial orientation practices by using the five-point Likert scale. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Further, the reliability of the data was tested using Cronbach’s alpha test, the validity of the data was tested by checking the normality test through skewness and kurtosis, and the consistency of the data was tested using factor analysis. On an average, 70.9% of the respondents agreed that they focus on these factors of entrepreneurial orientation. The federal owned GLCs place more emphasis on entrepreneurial orientation than the state owned GLCs. This study suggests improving the practices of entrepreneurial orientation of GLCs in Malaysia by emphasizing on recognizing individual risk takers for their willingness to champion new projects, whether it eventually turns out to be successful or not, encouraging employees to take calculated risks with new ideas, considering the term “risk taker” as a positive attribute for people in the organization, and supporting many small and experimental projects by realizing that some will undoubtedly fail.

Abstract: Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) are expected to show competitive performance in order to reflect the accountability of taxpayers’ money. Therefore, this study is an attempt to assess the status of the current level of organizational learning orientation among the Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) in Malaysia. This study collected primary data based on a set of questionnaire survey among 134 executives and managers of GLCs in Malaysia. The data were collected based on opinions of the ten factors of organizational learning practices by using the five-point Likert scale. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Further, the reliability of the data was tested using Cronbach’s alpha test, the validity of the data was tested by checking the normality test through skewness and kurtosis, and the consistency of the data was tested using factor analysis. On an average, 74.6% of the respondents agreed that they focus on these factors of organizational learning. The federal owned GLCs place more emphasis on organizational learning than the state owned GLCs. This study suggests improving the practices of organizational learning within the GLCs in Malaysia by emphasizing on the consideration that employee learning is an investment rather than an expense, employees should view themselves as partners in charting the direction of the organization, employees should not be afraid of critically reflecting on the shared assumptions about the ways of managing the organization, and by analyzing unsuccessful organizational endeavours and communicating the lessons learned widely among the employees.

Through the research results obtained by researchers, the researchers drew the conclusion that the variables free of price and promotion have a significant effect on purchasing decision because the value of sig <0,05. While for the independent variable of product quality has no significant effect with purchase decision because sig value> 0,05. This is because the consumers who have been interviewed stated that the drinking water products in their quality packaging are almost the same.

Abstract: The aim of this paper utilizes an energy demand model to investigate the impact of trade openness on energy consumption by incorporating scale and technique, composition and urbanization effects in the case of Malaysia. The study covers the sample period of 1970-2011 using quarter frequency data. We applied the bounds testing approach in the presence of structural breaks to examine the long run relationship between the variables. The VECM Granger causality is used to detect the direction of causality between the variables. Our findings indicate that growth effect (scale and technique effect) has a positive (negative) impact on energy consumption whereas composition effect stimulates energy demand in Malaysia.. Energy consumption is positively influenced by both from openness and urbanization. This study opens new policy insights for policy making authorities to articulate a comprehensive energy and trade policy to sustain economic growth and improve the environmental quality of Malaysia.

Abstract: The external pressures on the domestic economic stability has prompted Bank Indonesia to focus on its monetary policy on the exchange rate measures. However, as part of the policy mix, the stance of monetary policy has been balanced with accommodative macroprudential policies to continue providing its support for the economic growth. Even though they have different targets and in their implementation there are potential conflicts that may occur when we try to achieve the objectives of both policies, the central bank deems a monetary policy and macroprudential policies to be complementary policies. This situation will provide a space for the macroprudential policies to encourage some kind of bank intermediation and to spur a credit growth. A policy support is needed to accelerate the credit growth to achieve its economic financing targets in the next 5 years, namely at 16% yoy. This study was aimed at identifying proper recommendations on the macroprudential policies such as encouraging a credit growth that included easing Loan to Value (LTV) ratios, targeting sectoral credit, easing the Macroprudential Intermediation Ratio (MIR), decreasing the Macroprudential Liquidity Buffer (MLB) ratios, easing the counter cyclical capital buffer (CCB) requirements, and strengthening coordination with other government agencies.

Abstract: The massive scale of forest fire by big companies in Kapuas Hulu have caused smog disaster that affect surrounding areas suh as Kalimantan Island and Malaysia. These companies cleared land without considering season calendaras indigenous peopleof Dayak did. As a result, forest fire is uncontrollable that cause serious haze disaster. In contrast, the Dayak people have local wisdom called bambi‘ari to prevent forest fire. According to bambi ‘ari, Dayak people clear small scale land and use season calendar before fire the forest. This research concern swith bambi ‘ari’s implementation to prevent forest fire haze by using qualitative method to collect primary data. This research argues that as a local wisdom, bambi ‘ari was built upon collaboration among the Dayak people to develop social solidarity. Since the Dayak people rely heavily on natural resources, they set a system to help natural resources management, such as forest. This set of system called tembawang, applies season calendar to determine planting in the field and land clearing. Forest fire as a tool of land clearing, conducted in natural ways and in particular time to avoid haze disaster. Collaboration among the Dayak people occurred when they fire forest by monitoring hot spots and supplying water to prevent uncontrolled forest fire. This research concludes that the implementation of bambi‘ari as a long term natural resources management by the Dayak people enable haze disaster prevention

Abstract: This research employs the Bayesian network modeling approach, and the Markov chain Monte Carlo technique, to learn about the role of lies and violence in teachings of major religions, using a unique dataset extracted from long-standing Vietnamese folktales. The results indicate that, although lying and violent acts augur negative consequences for those who commit them, their associations with core religious values diverge in the final outcome for the folktale characters. Lying that serves a religious mission of either Confucianism or Taoism (but not Buddhism) brings a positive outcome to a character (βT_and_Lie_O= 2.23; βC_and_Lie_O= 1.47; βT_and_Lie_O= 2.23). A violent act committed to serving Buddhist missions results in a happy ending for the committer (βB_and_Viol_O= 2.55). What is highlighted here is a glaring double standard in the interpretation and practice of the three teachings: the very virtuous outcomes being preached, whether that be compassion and meditation in Buddhism, societal order in Confucianism, or natural harmony in Taoism, appear to accommodate two universal vices—violence in Buddhism and lying in the latter two. These findings contribute to a host of studies aimed at making sense of contradictory human behaviors, adding the role of religious teachings in addition to cognition in belief maintenance and motivated reasoning in discounting counterargument.

Abstract: Due to chronic financial crises experienced during last several decades repeatedly and a failure to protect investors‟ rights as a result, the world is looking for an alternative form of stock market for quite some time so that interests of all relevant stakeholders can be safeguarded. At the same time, from the perspectives of devout Muslims, the current form of stock market restricts a Muslim to make investments in the market due to unsatisfying several provisions from the Islamic law, known as shariah. This study provides the criteria under which conditions the Islamic shariah permits making investments in the stock market. Hand in hand with that primary discussion, it has been eluded briefly why the Islamic shariah principles offer a better alternative against conventional practices of the stock market.

This research focuses on the mechanisms through which technological innovation, and, more specifically, the emergence of satellite-based navigation systems, contributes to the success of road pricing projects in four jurisdictions considered as first movers: Singapore, United States (Oregon), Germany and Norway. Interviews with local experts helped determine how the problem, policy and political streams converge to enable implementation of road pricing projects in these countries. The first movers’ experience demonstrates that new technologies and increasing traffic problems are factors that contribute to an increasing need for pricing, but do not eliminate political hurdles. This suggests that it is better to plan things far ahead of time and move forward slowly in the hope of one day successfully implementing a road pricing project.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to uncover the impacts of mobile phone use on the performance of micro-enterprises (MEs) in Bangladesh, a developing country where the total number of mobile subscriptions reached around 131.38 million by the end of June in 2016 with penetration rate of 81 percent. Data were collected from owners of MEs through face to face interview. A multivariate analysis and SPSS macro developed by Preacher and Hayes were used as statistical techniques to assess the effects of mobile phone use. Results of the study indicate that micro-enterprises which owners were using mobile phone were having significantly greater benefits and financial performance compared to counterparts. A significant direct relationship between mobile phone use, and social capital and ME‟s financial and non-financial performances was found. A further investigation revealed that financial performance is also indirectly related to social capital and quality and enterprise processes, which are significantly influenced by mobile phone usage. Therefore social capital and non-financial business performances are involved in the mediational process between the financial performance of MEs and use of mobile phone. The novelty of this research lies in the establishment of, for the first time, high level statistical relationship between the use of mobile phone, its mediating factors and financial performance of MEs. The findings will assist micro-entrepreneurs and policy makers in taking right courses of action that make the implementation of this device more effective.

Abstract: Status: Preprint (belum di terbitkan pada Jurnal manapun) The objectives of this study were to analyze and investigate the human capital resource of SMEs to achieve the expected level of performance and to see if the quality of human capital had been appropriate enough to be able to apply certain business strategy. This study also intended to see if the cost leadership strategy, differentiation strategy, as well as appropriate focus strategy to improve the performance of SMEs. This study employed a survey design in which researcher conducted a survey to managers or owner of 68 SMEs of Karawo handicraft in Gorontalo city. This study also employed the structural equation or PLS approach using warpPLS application to analyze the data. The finding of this study showed that the ability of the human capital owned by the SMEs had not yet maximized in improving its performance. The role of the mediation business strategy (cost leadership strategy and differentiation strategy) have been appropriate and matched the ability of the human capital to improve the performance of SMEs. The result of this study enriches the body of knowledge related to the resource based theory and the development of strategic management of the human capital investment for the implementation of business strategy to achieve good performance and system. This study also offers practical benefit for managers or owners of SMEs, and government in developing the business. The data were collected using cross sectional strategy by analyzing the opinions and perception of the managers or owners of the business. Future researchers are encouraged to expand this by involving bigger number of sample and broader scope of study. Future researcher may also develop this study using mix method research design to verify and take action on the interesting result of this study related to the implementation of focus strategy based on the ability of the human capital which has been confirmed to have the highest coefficient path, yet did not have significant effect to the improvement of the performance without the involvement of mediational variables such as the combination of focus-cost strategy or focus-differentiation strategy.

Abstract: Economists have long argued that road pricing improves the efficiency of infrastructure development. However, pricing projects for roads remain scarce, often for lack of political support. Quebec is no exception. After the implementation of tolls on portions of highways 25 and 30 in the early 2010s, the issue has faded out of political concern. This research focuses on the mechanisms through which technological innovation, and more specifically the emergence of global satellite-based navigation systems, contributes to the comeback of road pricing on the political agenda. A case analysis of Quebec is compared to four other cases considered as first movers in road pricing: Singapore, Oregon (USA), Germany and Norway. Interviews with local experts helped determine how the streams of solutions, problems and politics converge to enable implementation of road pricing projects.

Abstract: The aim of this research is to know the influence of service quality to satisfaction and tourist loyality in Ciater Spa Resort. The method used in this research is descriptive verificative. Method analisis of this research is analisis path with software PLS. The results showed that the quality of service has no significant effect on loyalty, it means that service quality as exogenous variable requires intervening role (variable of satisfaction). Visitor satisfaction at Ciater Spa Resort has a significant effect on visitor loyalty. In addition, the relationship between the two research variables are positive, the increasing customer satisfaction will increase also loyalty, otherwise the decrease in visitor satisfaction will have an impact on the decrease in visitor loyalty. These findings have matched customer loyalty theory in marketing books. So that verifikatif research has been done successfully to verify the theory of loyalty in general. This article at once confirms a model of service theory as well as its relationship with satisfaction and loyalty, while minimizing the possibility of false loyalty so that this model can be used in the implementation of service management.

Abstract: While CO2 emissions from the residential and commercial sectors of Japan have increased significantly since 1990 the country‟s industrial emissions make up the largest share of those emissions. The historical CO2 emission performance data also indicate that the iron and steel, chemical, paper and pulp and cement were the top four largest industrial emitters, and these top four emitting industries contributed nearly two-third of the industrial sector‟s total CO2 emission amount during 1990-2015. Evidently, any appropriate efforts or strategies guided by an empirical investigation like this are expected to help Japan‟s industrial emitters move toward a more tolerable and less polluted carbon footprint, which is well-matched with the country‟s commitment to Kyoto Protocol. This study is thus an effort to empirically investigate the causality and long-run trend/relationship between Japan‟s industrial production and CO2 emissions and to propose some corporate environmental strategies using the econometric techniques of Vector Error Correction (VEC) and Granger causality. It found that there exists no Granger causality between Japan‟s industrial production and CO2 emissions in any direction. But the VEC estimation reveals that an increase in Japan‟s industrial production by 1% is associated with a 0.08% increase in the country‟s CO2 emissions. It also reveals that any disequilibrium between Japan‟s industrial production and CO2 emissions could take about 0.7 quarters for half of the error to be corrected for. The adjustment rate for Japan‟s industrial production is found to be positive but quite slow at the rate of 0.08% per year. Since Japan‟s CO2 emissions vis-à-vis its industrial production is found to have reached above the long-run equilibrium level, its industrial sector is expected to encounter with stricter government regulations requiring reduction of CO2 emissions to the targeted/equilibrium level in the future.

Abstract: This paper examines the impact of foreign exchange rate risk on the expected return of a South African investor’s portfolio. A GJR-GARCH based Value at Risk (VaR) model was used to compute the upside and downside risk measures. Data sample of ten emerging stock markets were utilized: from 1 January 2000 to 6 March 2019. The tails of negative and positive asset returns were modelled with the help of the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) method in order to separate left tail risk from right tail risk. Our findings reveal that international diversification substantially enhances the South African investor’s portfolio return, with a noticeable yield increase in China, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, and Russia. Furthermore, the Singaporean dollar and Chinese Yuan are found to have a negative impact on the portfolio return, while the rest of the currencies have a positive impact on the portfolio return. Also, we found that exchange rate risk is underestimated when using the variance-covariance method as it fails to capture the swing movement of currency in the minimum- value at risk optimization.

Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this study is to analyze the profitability performance of Islamic banks of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region during 2008 global financial crisis. Design/methodology/approach – Bank specific data are taken from the Bank Scope database and macroeconomic data are collected from International Financial Statistics. Using a panel data series of 30 banks for the period of 2005 to 2011, the study shows the evidence of structural break for the crisis year as well as the factors that impact the profitability of Islamic banks. Findings – The performance of GCC Islamic banks was significantly influenced during the crisis period by capital adequacy, credit risk, financial risk, operational efficiency, liquidity, bank size, gross domestic product, growth rate of money supply, bank sector development and inflation rate. The study also finds that there is a structural change before and after the global financial crisis. Originality/value – This is an original study that shows that the shariah compliant banks have performed better during the crisis and are not affected based on their internal performance records; rather, they have been affected indirectly from the macro shock due to the overall economic crisis.

Abstract: The concept of Islamic entrepreneurship centers on ensuring community well-being as the priority, which is one of the important objectives (Maqasid) of the Islamic Shari’ah. Historically, waqf played a significant role in the Islamic economic system, particularly in rendering exemplary welfare services in the areas of healthcare, education, social welfare, environmental, and other community-based programs. However, only a few success stories in recent history have institutionally utilized the properties of waqf under proper management to achieve its substantial objectives. This study uses the literature review as basis to analyze the reasons behind the successful utilization of waqf as an effective tool to ensure social welfare services in the past, as well as how this model can be replicated by considering current contexts. This study will assist Islamic value-centric entrepreneurs, regulatory authorities, investors, and researchers to gain an overall insight into the potentials of waqf as a tool for rendering commendable social welfare services.

Abstract: Recently, employee-fraud has drawn extensive attention due to huge amount of losses of various organizations. This study developed a new model of fraud risk by integrating new elements into a fraud triangle theory. This study simultaneously analyzed religiosity and the three elements of fraud risk factors of employee fraud committed by low and mid-level public officials. The data collected from 120 enforcement officers indicated that religiosity is negatively related to employee fraud. By contrast, all the three elements of fraud triangle theory, namely, pressure, opportunity, and rationalization, are positively related to employee fraud. These results imply that strong religiosity is crucial to mitigate employee fraud. To minimize employee fraud, the opportunity to commit such fraud should be reduced through strong internal control, reduction of negative rationalization, and employee financial pressure. This study contributes to the literature by introducing a new model on employee-fraud occurrence that is not extensively discussed, particularly in the context of local authority in developing countries.

Abstract: We study the effects of introducing two different types of robots (additive and multiplicative) in an infinitely lived one-sector aggregative model with malleable capital on wages. The wage effects of these two polar cases are dramatically different. Given malleable capital that can be retrofitted for use either as conventional machines or as robots, we show that when it is profitable for firms to adopt additive robots in the production process, the real wage drops on impact and remains permanently at the lower level even as total malleable capital accumulates. However, when multiplicative robots are adopted, we show that while the immediate impact on the real wage is ambiguous, the real wage enjoys a positive trend growth even in the absence of steady technological progress.

Abstract: This study investigates the dynamic relationships between technological innovation, consumption of energy, energy price and economic growth in Denmark during the period from 1970 until 2012, using multivariate setting to examine time-series data. The analysis employs the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach to co-integration in order to examine both the short and long run dynamics among the variables. Furthermore, the study uses the Granger procedure within the VAR framework to identify causality among the variables. The model used in this study is found to be sound, a diagnosis of the reliability of the model reached by testing normality, functional form, serial correlation, and heteroscedasticity, with stability of the model tested using a cumulative sum and cumulative sum square test, based on recursive regression residuals. The ARDL approach to co-integration reveals that real GDP growth positively influences energy consumption as well as significantly in both the short run and long run, while energy prices and technological innovation influence energy consumption negatively and significantly. The results ascertain that energy consumption and economic growth are independent of each other, and thus they support a neutral hypothesis for Denmark. Besides, both the technological innovation and energy prices are found to be Granger cause energy consumption. Therefore, the study suggests that Denmark should adopt conservative energy policy using technological innovation and energy prices as instruments to achieve energy security and protect the environment from pollution.

Abstract: Nowadays Modern economy cannot be thought without banks. The banks of Bangladesh have great contributions to the development of this country. This study concentrated on the commercial banks in Bangladesh to determine the effect of liquidity and bank size on the profitability of the banks during the year 2011-2015. Seven commercial banks were selected and descriptive as well as correlations analysis statistics were used to conduct the study. Data from the annual reports of the banks were analyzed. The results stated that loan to asset ratio and bank size had a positive relation with return on asset (ROA) which was the indicator of profitability. The results also showed that deposit to asset ratio had a negative impact on the ROA of the selected banks. Although there were relationships among liquidity, bank size and profitability but liquidity and bank size did not have a significant influence on the profitability of the banks.
