| Abstract: | "Die meisten Menschen sind die meiste Zeit über glücklich" stellt in einer Zusammenfassung vieler empirischer Studien Biswas-Diener (2009) fest. Sogar nach einschneidenden Negativerlebnissen wie Arbeitslosigkeit oder dem Verlust des Partners passen sich die meisten Menschen recht schnell an die neuen Lebensumstände an und kehren zu ihrem Ausgangsniveau der Lebenszufriedenheit zurück; und diese ist für die meisten Menschen in westlichen Kulturen typischerweise eher positiv als negativ oder neutral (siehe z.B. Brickman/ Campbell 1971 sowie Diener u.a. 2006). In diesem Beitrag konzentrieren wir uns freilich auf eine Phase des Lebens, in der das eben gezeichnete positive Bild des Wohlbefindens nicht mehr gilt: die Lebenszeit unmittelbar vor dem Tod. Wir gehen hier speziell der Frage nach, ob die kumulativen Effekte, die im Laufe eines Lebens auftreten und den Prozess des Sterbens (mit)bestimmen, nach der bereits 20 Jahre zurückliegenden Vereinigung Deutschlands noch heute von den Lebensbedingungen in der DDR (mit)bestimmt werden. |

| Abstract: | Copulas erfreuen sich in der Finanzwirtschaft wachsender Beliebtheit. Ursache hierfür ist insbesondere die Möglichkeit, mit ihrer Hilfe nicht-lineare Abhängigkeitsstrukturen darzustellen. Ein weiterer Vorteil besteht darin, dass multivariate Verteilungen mit Hilfe von Copulas separat in ihre Randverteilungen und in ihre Abhängigkeitsstruktur zerlegt werden können. Damit ist die Untersuchung der Abhängigkeitsstruktur losgelöst von Annahmen über die Randverteilungen. Diese Flexibilität ermöglicht die Anwendung von Copulas in zahlreichen Bereichen der Finanzwirtschaft, vom Risikomanagement über die Bewertung von komplexen Finanzprodukten bis zur Portfoliooptimierung. Die vorliegende Arbeit dient zum Einen als didaktischer Einstieg in die Copulathematik und stellt zum Anderen die aktuellen Forschungsergebnisse aus den genannten Bereichen vor. |

| Abstract: | The paper provides a historical overview of the institutional development of the structural elements of the standard employment contract in Germany from the beginning of World War I until the outbreak of World War II. For this purpose, a model of the standard employment contract including certain structural elements is used, which represents the standard employment contract in the early 1970s. The analysis deals with the determining factors of the emergence and adjustment of these elements and traces back the intentions of each actor involved. The focal point is the legal arrangement of employment contracts between employees and employers. The historical perspective shows that the legal structure of the working relationship depends on the particular social and political balance of power of the time. The relation between the position of each interest group within society and its implications is especially observed during periods of severe political disruption. |

| Abstract: | "Further education and training activities are considered to be recalled only with difficulty. Therefore non-formal and informal training activities have mostly not been collected in retrospective surveys. Within the framework of the IAB-ALWA study 'Working and Learning in a Changing World' also short and relatively insignificant training episodes that occurred sometime in the past are of central interest. For this reason it is examined whether the recalling of activities through a context based re-trieval process is realistic. Thus we addressed in a cognitive pretest the question whether by remembering further education episodes there is a connection between the memory strategies used by respondents and the amount of events as well as the time-lag to the context of memorization – in our case the employment episodes. The results of the cognitive pretest show that respondents remember training activities from the recent past well. For long foregone events context based memory strategies are frequently used. In sum it is shown that the context based retrieval process is an appropiate instrument for the retrospective data collection of training activities which are dated back only few years. The longer the retrospective intervall, the greater the memory problems which cannot be compensated by the context based retrieval process. Based on the findings of the cognitive pretest adopted instruments were applied in the main survey of the IAB-ALWA study and in the follow-up study, the first wave of the adult stage of the National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). | Abstract: | The global competition in innovation has significantly intensified over the past decades. New large countries like China, India, Brazil and Russia are challenging the traditional incum-bents like the US, Europe and Japan in this area. By accelerating the integration of the previ-ously predominant national innovation systems towards a European Innovation Union the European Commission is aiming to make significant progress as part of the 2020 strategy. By creating regional innovation clusters, by further international enhancing respective networks with other global innovation centres globally and further specialization of regional innova-tion locations the available capacities in Europe should better utilized and further strength-ened. As a part of the 7th EU-Framework Program the project „Intangible Assets and Re-gional Growth” has made significant contributions through academic research. In particular the creation of innovative milieus in regional innovation systems and the attraction and fur-ther qualification of human capital are key drivers for the success of such locations. |
